Robert Burns -- His Life in Poetry and Song

By Deborah Hand-Cutler

This program was produced and performed by the Celtic Band, Paint a Rose, for the 2006 Kern County Scottish Society’s Burns Night supper. The band had 5 members – 2 women, 3 men. The instrumentation was fiddle, guitar, cello/tenor banjo, keyboard/accordion, whistle/bodhran.
The program could be performed with more players, or with a minimum of one man and one woman, playing fiddle and guitar or keys. Or, it could have two actor/singers (man and woman) and a band. The lines could be assigned other than listed here for more or fewer players. The way the songs were performed could also be changed to fit the musicians and singers. The players are numbered, but lines could be interchanged, for the most part. Where a particular character has a line, that is noted.
The script will be downloaded to you as a Word document so that you could edit at will. The full words of the well-known songs are not given and can be found on the internet and in songbooks. Those that might be more obscure, including poems, are fully given in the script.

    The players:
        Player 1 (Robbie Burns)
        Player 2 (Neil Gow)
        Player 3 (guitarist)
        Player 4 (Clarinda)
        Player 5 (Jean)
