Black Horse Press
The Greater Tehachapi area is home to a herd of magnificent wild black horses that have roamed freely among the meadows, oak trees and wind turbines of Oak Creek Canyon for more than 100 years. The horses are thought to be decendents of Morgan horses from a breeding ranch. The herd is on private land so is not subject to BLM control, but a private organization keeps the balance of nature in line between the horses and habitat by adopting some of the young horses out every few years. Deborah's press name, Black Horse Press, pays homage to these beautiful horses, and also to the memory of her horse, Coda, a black thoroughbred appaloosa. For more information and photos, see oakcreekwildhorses.com.
